I feel silly blogging about the oatmeal, but that was part of the deal, too. So here's what I got:
36 boxes of Quaker oatmeal
25 4packs of Dan Active Yogurt
Tho Oatmeal was 2/$4 but you save $2 when you buy 4, so the price before coupons was $1.50 a box, but I had $1 coupons, so for $18 I got 36 boxes of oatmeal.
The Dan Active 4packs were $2 and when you buy 5 you save $2 so before coupons, they were 5/$8 which breaks down to 1.60 per 4pack. THEN- I had $1 coupons, so each pack was only 60 cents so I spent $15 on 25 four packs of Dan Active Yogurt
Between all that oatmeal and yogurt, I should really make sure we have plenty of toilet paper and water, huh.
Speaking of water, Arrowhead 24packs are 3.99 at Safeway, but when you buy 4 you get a $5 catalina printout, so each case ends up costing $10.96, which breaks down to about 11 cents per bottle. Compared to grabbing a $2 bottle of water at the gas station, this is WAY smarter.
Skippy peanut butter and Ragu Spaghetti sauce at Walgreens are 1.99 and when you buy 8 you get a $10 catalina printout, so that means that it's only $5.92 for EIGHT jars of peanut butter or Ragu. but good luck if you live in Yakima because they never order much of their sale items, and they might give you a rain check but I doubt they'll restock by the time the promotion ends. I have some coupons for 40 cents off the peanut butter, but they're out. Maybe they'll restock later this week.

Quaker instant oatmeal 50 cents a box or less
OK- this ad lasts until 1-20-09
It's at Albertsons, and you need to get them in increments of four in order to get the advertised sale price of $1.50 per box. Then, if you have the $1 coupons from the newspaper or from the inside of the Simple Harvest boxes, then use those. Otherwise, use the blinkies (coupons the little machine spits out, hanging on the shelf right in front of the Oatmeal. This makes the oatmeal 50 cents a box.
There's a potential for overage if you use a coupon doubler. Sometimes they have these in the newspaper, in other store's ads. Albertson's accepts other store's advertisements. If you double each coupon, you have an overage of 50 cents per box. You have to spend that in the same shopping trip, so have fun!
I wasn't able to find any doublers, but I did get 16 boxes of the Simple harvest Oatmeal. We like that because it doesn't have high fructose corn syrup in it. Don't let those stupid commercials fool you about it being OK. "In moderate amounts" it says, but I challenge you to find prepared foods in your cupboard that don't have it in there. It's in bread, pasta, TV dinners, canned tomato sauces, ketchup, salad dressing, and other foods you wouldn't normally think of as sweet. INJECTED INTO MEAT- yep, and not just the deli counter lunch meat, either. They put it into ground beef. So forget about moderation. You could moderate all you want and you're still consuming more of it than you should be.
NOW- why does the healthier instant oatmeal have to have plastic packaging? Tell me that's biodegradable, please.
OOH- the blinkies arent' good on Simple harvest and I didn't read the label of the one it is good on. I had my own, and fromt he boxes I just bought, I got 16 more, which I will take back in a few days and do the deal again. My kids think flavored Oatmeal is treat. Dont' tell them I dilute it with 1/4 cup of the non-flavored stuff to reduce the sugar. AND- we don't use chemical sweeteners, so the sugar-free with splenda doesn't impress me. SEE- you can be a picky coupon shopper.

today's deals
OK, so I do this grocery-coupon-shopping thing, and I was able to combine the coupons and the sale prices to get 4 boxes of Frosted Mini Wheats and 10 boxes of Reynolds wrap and 2 caramels and a gallon of milk for $6
THEN- yesterday at ALbertsons I got 4 boxes of toaster strudel, 3 boxes of fiber-one pancake mix, 6 boxes of celestial seasonings tea, 2 pounds of sliced cheese, 12 hamburger patties, 2 chocolate things, 4 frozen pizzas and 3 boxes of Trix for $25.
AND- this isn't me at full speed yet, because of my limited internet access. Just wait until i can order some coupons again. If you want to learn how to do this, you need to go to hotcouponworld.com and download the upcoming sales ads for your stores. then, you check the coupon database to see which coupons are available and you order them on ebay or from one of the many women who distribute coupons online for just a handling fee.
AND- at Safeway I got 5 jugs of grapefruit juice and 2 10lb bags of grapefruits for $12.50
The big problem with this couponing is that it's mostly junk food. I use it a lot for getting toiletries, Walgreens had a deal last week where I could have gotten tons of free bottles of Garnier Fructis Shampoo and conditioner, but I failed to order the coupons in time (stupid stupid me) Anyways, I have a whole inventory of things I've gotten for free. At one point I had over 100 Glade Plugins, I have 6-8 tubes of toothpaste, extra razors and toothbrushes, Olay body ribbons (remember the microbead fiasco?) and all sorts of other goodies. It's fun. To use the words of my free-sample-loving friend, it's like sticking-it-to-the-man.
So anyways. try it. At first it's really time-consuming, but now i can scan all the ads and pick my deals in 1-2 hours a week.
